Merchandise
is made available in Three Standard Units of Measure:
1. "The
Truckload": (or container),
Trailers vary in length from 40 feet to 53 feet with An average
truckload containing the equivalent of 22 - 24 pallets of
merchandise.
2. "The pallet": (or "skid"), The
wooden pallet is used to enable fork lifts to move
merchandise, and merchandise is usually shrink-wrapped to the
pallet. Occasionally the contents are shipped without
the actual wood pallet, though it is referred to as a pallet.
3. "The Block": A Block (or Lot) will be two or more pallets which are listed on
one inventory list. A block could contain up to a truckload
and often more than one truckload.
